Project 1 Writing Process

When I first sat down and decided what I wanted to write about for my Project 1, I first found a nice and quiet place. This place was at my desk in my dorm room, both of my roommates were at practice so I was able to have the room to myself where I could sit at my desk, play some music and really debate what I wanted to write about. I first decided to pull up all of my notes and past readings in which we learned about Rhetoric ecologies and what exactly it was. After reviewing my notes, I then debated what rhetoric ecologies I can personally fall into. I thought deeply about myself personally; where I am from, what I enjoy doing, what I don’t enjoy doing and many more things like this. I then thought of the never ending debate of New Jersey, which side of Jersey is better: the North or the South. There are many valid arguments that show that one side is better than the other. As somebody from North Jersey, I feel as if North Jersey is superior.

Once I figured out what I was going to write about, I started my work. I laid out everything that I needed to write about and what ecologies I was going to write about. It took me a good amount of time to really think about what I wanted to write about, but once I figured it out it was easy from there. I looked at all of my notes that I had from the past few readings. I took out the exact instructions that we had to do for the project and started to categorize the different rhetorical concepts.

After reading the passage for this week, I noticed something in my writing that I have never really noticed. Lamott talks a lot about “Shitty First Drafts”, and now that I think about it, this is something that I do as well. I usually have my very first draft be really bad or sloppy just so I can mentally trick myself into thinking that it can only go up from here. I take the appropriate steps into making that “First Shitty Draft” and go forward to make it 10 times better.
