Giovanelli and Lawson Readings

For me, it is difficult to think of my ideal writing process. I feel that there are many different things that help me when writing. The most important thing to me is a nice quiet place in which I can let myself think. I feel like this is important because it gives me the opportunity to lay everything out, to let me think in peace, and most importantly have no distractions. I like having everything all spread out in front of me, whether it is my notes, draft of a paper, or the reading in which I am writing about, I like to have everything in front of me. I feel that this just helps me think about what I have to write about and gives me the time to think it all through. When I write, I like to take my time when I write, I don’t care how long it takes me to write my piece, I would be happy if I am in my ideal writing place. The hardest part for me are the distractions that can occur while writing. I like to put my phone out of my reach or even have a friend hold it as I write. I feel that that can be the biggest distraction for me.

My first step in writing is usually coming up with my thesis. This helps me give myself a general idea on what I am going to be writing about. From there I would make a draft and use this draft to work off of. I really like having somebody review my work and make edits on my work. That is one thing that I feel really helps me, to have another person look at my work and to give me advice on what they feel I have to work on.

This is very similar to Giovanelli and what he said in his reading. He felt that one of the most important parts of writing are the revisions and edits that are made in writing. This is one of my most important parts of my writing process. In the other reading Lawson stresses the opposite of what I feel is my writing process is. Lawson recites a story of how she is able to write through chaos. This is the complete opposite of what my ideal writing process is.

I agree that distractions can seriously hinder a writing experience. I often struggle with getting easily distracted while writing. This is why my ideal writing location is a quiet place where i can really focus.
